August 20, 2025Awarded the Environment Control System and Tunnel Ventilation System for Singapore’s Cross Island Line Phase 1 and Punggol Extension
On 29 May 2025, Shinryo Corporation (President and CEO: Takeshi Kagami, hereinafter “Shinryo”) was awarded a contract worth approximately 49 billion yen (SGD 436.8 million) by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore for the Contract CR173B Supply and Installation of Tunnel Ventilation and Environmental Control Systems for the Cross Island Line Phase 1 and Cross Island Line – Punggol Extension, Singapore’s eighth MRT line.
The Cross Island Line Phase 1, scheduled for completion in 2030 comprises of two segments: one segment spanning 29 km with 12 stations from CR2 Station in northeastern Singapore to CR13 Bright Hill Station, and another segment (Cross Island Line-Punggol Extension) spanning 7.3 km with 4 stations extending from CP1 Pasir Ris Station to CP4 Punggol Station.
The Cross Island Line, planned to be constructed in three phases, will be Singapore’s longest fully underground railway line, with a total length of more than 50 km when completed. When operational, it will have 8 interchange stations connecting with other existing lines, giving you more alternative travel routes to get to your destination. The projected daily ridership of the entire Cross Island Line is expected to be more than 600,000 in the initial years and increasing to over 1 million in the longer term.
In this construction project, the station air-conditioning system is designed to improve energy efficiency by installing platform screen doors to prevent heat emitted from trains from entering the platforms, thereby reducing the required cooling capacity of the air-conditioning units.
Additionally, in the tunnels, natural ventilation generated by train movement will be utilized during normal operations. During peak hours or in the event of a fire, large ventilation fans and dampers will be used in combination to change airflow direction, providing technology that also ensures safety.
Shinryo Corporation (Singapore Branch) began operations in Singapore in 1983. In the field of subway construction, the company was responsible for the station air-conditioning and tunnel ventilation works for Singapore’s first underground railway lines—the North-South Line and East-West Line—in 1987. Since then, Shinryo has been continuously involved in MRT projects which include the North-East Line, Circle Line, and Thomson-East Coast Line. To date, Shinryo has provided its technology to approximately 70% of all underground stations across Singapore's railway network.
Leveraging our experience and track record, we will carry out the construction safely toward its scheduled completion in 2032.
